Done for the season.
10/26/08 at 15:32:03

Well, I got a couple of hours of nice riding in yesterday. Today was a nice day but decided to start tearing the bike down, to work on over the winter, before it gets too cold in my garage. My hands don't tolerate the cold too well. I've drained the oil and pulled and drained the tank. Bought a motorcycle jack, so I can roll around what's left in the garage.
I'll be doing the verslavy, lick o' paint and other odds and ends this winter. My saddle bags rubbed through the paint on both sides. I'll have to come up with something to keep them off the fender.
I don't quite know how to express this, but I'm feeling a little, ...oh I don't know (cough) um...(sniff) (rubs eyes) "Dammit woman! Why you gotta start peeling onions now?!"  :'(

I feel for ya. The forecast here for next week has 2 days at 19c high and 4c low, so I can hopefully get 1 or 2 more rides in. It's been 2 weeks since I last rode and I've held off winterizing the wee beastie for the chance of 1 last ride.

Same here. I've decided to store mine indoors for the winter. I moved some furniture around in my den and the room is ready. All I need to do is drain the tank and bring her inside later this week.
Gonna clean and polish everything up, do a couple of mods,  and........repair the infamous ( Plug ) leak...  Angry. And maybe, on those cold winter nights, I might just grab a pillow and blanket and snuggle up to her for a night... Embarrassed

I will putting the FireLizard into hibernation after this weekend. My decision came when I dang near got frostbite on my way home from work on Wednesday night. I plan on stripping it down to the bare frame for repainting and working out the few bugs that are still there after all the mods I had done.

We're getting  a tiny dusting of snow in the Windy City tonight. Windy as in 30+ MPH gusts.
I'll start tearing the thing down when they begin salting the streets (perhaps another 30 days).

When the riding season ends, the wrenching season begins! Here's what I want the fat man and his small herd of delicious 10 point bucks to bring me this winter:

- The Verslagen cam chain  tensioner mod.
- Belt to chain conversion.
- Powder coated rims.
- Hand painted spokes to compliment the rim color.
- Relocate rectifier/VR or whatever that is from the rear fender to the air intake box.
- I'm gonna leave the rear pilon under the tree with a note to the fat man to give it to some naughty child.

If I can get the top half of this list knocked out, it will be a great winter .

Hey Firelizard, don't jump the gun! It was 70 degrees in Santa Fe at 4PM today when I was on my way back home from Taos!!! I rode the last hour with my leather jacket bungeed to my back rest. We'll get plenty of riding weather in before Christmas. Heck, I'm planning to ride on Christmas Day and New Year's like I did last year!

(Winterizing in my house is a cup of coffee and some long johns under the leather.)

Well, up here on the east coast of Newfoundland, we had a spectacular weekend for this time of the year ... sun, zero wind (unusual!) and temps above 10deg C (50's/low 60's F) ... managed a couple of wee scoots (forgot camera though Sad) ... but late yesterday afternoon, I Rode 'ol Iron Lung over to the warehouse where she spends the winter ... next week I'll go back and pull the battery ... I feel sad, I miss her already Sad

Here in Pa. the riding season is still pretty good. I rode to work today. When I left home in was 43 degrees, they say it is to get near 60 degrees in the afternoon. We will see what the weather is later in the week, but the coming weekend is supposed to be in the low 60 degree range. Not time for me to give up riding yet.

I have about a 10-15 minute 60-70mph run to work so while it gets chilly, its not too bad yet. I bought some new gloves (non-ventilated so i can actually feel the brake and clutch levers now after 10 minutes of riding) and I'm good for a while. Our mornings are getting to be in the 30s. We'll see just how long I can last.
I have a garage space offered to me for winter storage but its just so fun having my coworkers think I'm crazy.

I don't have any work planned for the bike this winter. I plan on doing a valve adjustment before I pull it out in the spring and at 5800 miles on a 2006 I think I'm still ok for another season for the tensioner.

I never lay the bikes up -- just put them on the battery tender and make sure that I "seize the moment" during our monthly or semi-monthly winter thaws.  Even a "leave at 10AM, eat at noon or 1PM, back by 4PM outing can be a great morale lifter!

Cool

Still, when there's ice on the roadway, the bike's in the garage!

Us Yanks up here in the Northeast, fart in your general direction.  Tongue

Don't mind me, I'm just jealous and in a crummy mood. Unfortunately, my bike really needs some maintenance issues adressed, and I'm not particularly fast with the wrench.

Head plug leak.
Verslavy cam tensioner mod.
Valve adjustment.
painting of assorted bits.
Recover of seat and pillion.

The problem Chong is I work 3pm to 11pm with a 47 mile round trip. During the day yes, it seems fine but it's the commute back home that gets me. Besides, I need the down time to do some work on the FireLizard.

Next spring the FireLizard will be coming out of the lair with a fresh look.
