I just put the S40 away for the winter, but I kept out the 250 Ninja and my wife's BN125. With the chance of slippery roads I put away the torquer in favor of machines with less bottom-end torque.
At the risk of being called a heretic (or worse), compared to the '07 S40 the '07 250 Ninja is faster on top end, burns less fuel at similar speed and has a tank nearly twice as big, has better wind protection in stock form, has a tach and a trip odometer, and has less objectionable engine vibration at normal highway speeds. It also has easier battery access. But valve adjustments on the S40 are easier. I won't compare comfort, because that is subjective and not easily measured.
