I know this has been done to death but I just checked my cam chain tensioner. Bike has about 20k on it. Here's what I found,

Right around 18mm. I had a modified tensioner from verslagen so I installed it. Now I'm off to the store to buy some oil. The whole job took me about 1 hour 45 minutes. Having a garage to work in really helps.

Verslagen, where do you want me to send the old one? PM or email me the address.

Oh, by the way, I'm all settled in my new place and life is good for a while. Except now I have to mow the lawn and stuff like that which I never had to do before.

Al, that's the way to be prepared. Always nice to have the part(s) on hand when you tear into a project

Out of curiosity, was this the first time that you opened the side to check it?

Oh, ain't it great being able to work in that garage? Even though it only took you an hour or two, it's good to know you can lay things out in an organized fashion and pick back up where you left off.

1st time I've had the cover off. I still haven't had my tank off yet. I'll do that to change the spark plug next. I'm not much of a mechanic but this seems like a good time to learn.

Tank is easy squeezy. Seat off--2 bolts at back of tank off--speedo cable off at motor (remember where this routes through from top to bottom)--unhook gas line from carb and plug it--unhook vacuum line from petcock--pull tank back and up, a little to the left so petcock clears frame. Unplug wiring for speedo and voila!! Tank is in your hands. Going back on, just remember to make sure the rubber things are on the 2 tank mounts, and reverse procedure.
There is a spark plug mod you can do, so in the future you won't have to remove tank to change the plug. It's in the Technical documents section. The second thread near the top is a list of links to everything you need to know. Under lube and maintenance there is the "spark plug conversion" link, and one for "tank removal". And a miriad of other things.
Of course, being a serious thumper, you should know all this already.
