You should go back and study the early days of the Reich. Unkie Adolph discredits the Reichstag (Congress,) the Police (replaced with Brown Shirts, then they are replaced by the Blackshirts). Big Parades because the little Corporal wasn't a big deal in the military (Unkie Donald skipped it - oh wait, his heel made it impossible to skip).

I think most people on this forum (with maybe one exception) know how/why hitler came into power.

One thing that's different now is that we live in a small world. I've seen more than one group saying that if the parade happens, they'll stand in the path and boycott.

Just look at the women's march - the country is finally waking up.

Like a cheating spouse, they find it extremely feasible that their spouse is cheating on them....golly, I wonder why?

A giant difference in today's world, than what was present when Hitler rose to power, or when the Crusaders shared their faith with heathen, is folks ability to get the truth, call it news, if you like, but that too is agenda and profit driven....
But technology and access through many sources, allows even the most remote places, the ability to get input into events....

I get that its fun to script out our fantasies, finding validation via that same technology, however, that alone will not make it true, sorry.

I think it's dumbernshit to have a demonstration/parade.
I also don't see it as anything more sinister than trying to awaken a more patriotic feeling in America.
I don't agree with that, either.
Patriotism is an emotion.
That's a fulcrum for manipulation.
It's easier to con people into supporting military action that has no rational justification. Iraq, Libya, both Bullshit.

Absolutely not.....

The guy is off his F'N rocker.
Its so 1950 mentality of dominance, etc.

We saw Obama try appeasement, to these rogue leaders, etc.
I credit him for trying something different, however if folks can't readily see it now, they really have no interest in surrendering their own factions and quest of their beliefs, etc, to a better, safer, world society.

Then I do not know what it will take to convince you that a threat exist, still, to our pursuits of happiness.

Personally, I am more afraid of a dog that doesn't bark, than one that does.....

Our military has been demagogued as the reason why "ill will" exist in this world, by many.
If you deny that, then no further dialogue will result in understanding.

However, this stunt by Trump, to USE our service folk as a prop, to bolster his own devious scheme, is frightening, and a real reason why folks who can, need to intervene and stop this insanity before its festers anymore.
But to evoke Hitler, is once again cheap, and lazy, argument.....

I won't even go into a disservice, and disrespect, of many victims who suffered way greater than any of us can imagine.

You find his "grandstanding" abhorrent, then don't grandstand other heinous historical events to bolster your own POV.

JOG - I can't believe we almost agree on a second thing and all within one year. I brought up Hitler, exactly because, the nationalism and "Patriotism" which are simply tribalism inn modern cloak are the analogs to Brexit and America First, make America Great Again.

Hitler and the political party he fronted manipulated public opinion in order to consolidate power. If you were to make a check list,
(1) Discredit present police system so you can replace it or place it under control not of police professionals but "party hacks",
(2) Whip up hysteria about "them" invading us and polluting our people,
(Does the Wall suggest anything, torchlight parades in VA>??
(3) Convince people to waste/spend their resources on the most controllable force, the military which is a top down system -obey, obey.
