Family campground or open air insane asylum?

Last weekend we went camping at Locust Lake State Park. We left after the 1st night.
Once the sun went down the place turned into the campground of horrors.
Up the hill a large family was having a loud party with lots of loud salsa music, shouting and arguments. Then the car alarms started going off and did so over and over until I wanted to go smash some headlights. Then around midnight in the site next door a little girl started screaming. Not happy screams but the most agonized and painful screams a person being tortured to death might make. This continued long enough to disturb me down to my very soul. Eventually it stopped and things actually got quiet. That's when I realized I could hear the interstate. And it was under construction.
No sleep for the wicked?
Around 3 AM I had to make my way to the bathroom. I did my business but kept hearing something. As I was walking out a guy appears in the door to the last shower with his pants down. I kept going.
I got about 25 ft away and the bathroom door slams and here comes the creep after me in a big hurry. I got out my knife and prepared to mess dude up but he quickly veered away down another trail and disappeared into the darkness.

I went back to my site and lied in the hammock with my knife in one hand and my flashlight in the other until the sun came up again.

These family campgrounds just keep getting worse every year. I won't be going camping anymore.

Anyway at least one good laugh came out of it...

My experience with tent camping is somewhat similar.  We had a family reunion in Ohio at Mohican State Park.  The State Park sites are reserved long in advance - so we got a tent site at a large place called Mohican Campground.  My sister was in a camper and they had nice neighbors and it was peaceful.  Our tent site was really far away from everything and it took nearly 15 minutes of 5mph driving to get to our site.  The first night our neighbors stayed up until 3AM talking and shouting and dropping the F bomb every sentence.....we wondered how the family with 4 kids on the other side of those folks were handling it.  The next night those folks were gone - but there was a group on the campsite down the hill from us that had the largest LED light I have ever seen - it lit up the entire woods and they stayed up very late and talked just as loud as the other folks until very, very late......my earplugs helped.  The campground had a 10 PM noise curfew, but they had no way to call - there was supposed to be a security guard at the entrance.....but that was a 15 minute drive to get to him and another 15 minute drive back.  I wrote a letter to the campground and let them know we would never be back - we never got a response from them.

I believe campgrounds should offer a "family" area - and have a separate area for folks who have families or want a peaceful experience.

The funny thing is that the most peaceful camping experiences I have had is at the motorcycle campgrounds in TN/NC - the folks come to ride and are content to ride hard and then relax at night.

This is why I go "dispersed" or "open" camping.
You need to bring your own toilet and take your trash with you though.

Gee...maybe I shoulda not bought my camping trailer  Undecided

Funny, some campground/RV parks, have restrictions as to who can camp there now.
I am willing to pay a premium to camp in these places just to avoid issues like this.

Its a sign of our times guys, I'm afraid, its screw you, and no considerations for the other, anymore.

Sad.

It cracks me up. In the morning the state park police showed up to inform us we had setup camp in the wrong site and we had to pack everything up and move it 10 feet over. We packed and left. But I couldn't help thinking to myself is this their biggest worry in this funny farm? Where were they the night before when the creepshow was taking place?

Our last 4 camping experiences were also bad. One place had a haunted hay ride being pulled by an extra loud farm tractor which passed our site with a load of screaming kids every 10 minutes from 11 to 11  Sad

Another time it was the mad axman who chopped wood all hours of the day and night but during his rests between loads he would pull a chair up to the end of his driveway and glare at us across the road with his sweaty red face as if he wanted to chop us up. Funny he wouldn't glare at the people next to us loudly partying all night long.

Too many wackjobs, partiers, out of control children and just rude inconsiderate jackasses at these so called family campgrounds. We're done with them.

The best come back I heard from (not a family campsite, but a Mc rally) Was a friend who put up with some guys in the next tent with their all night long conversation. In the morning my friend backed his Moto Guzzi Eldorado in to their tent , fired it up and ran it to the red line. Then he said.
"If I did not sleep you're are not going to sleep!"
Apparently the next night was quiet.   Cool

Had that problem when I rented a cabin in a state park once ,had a couple of bags of marshmallows , when the partiers retired for the night,  I tossed them under their cabin(300 ft away) so they could listen to the  raccoons  ,hiss ,scream and fight over them all night . Fired up the CD player in my Van early the next mourning played them a little AC/DC rock & roll for breakfast.  The rest of the weekend was pretty quiet!(had three very young kids with me at the time and had asked them to keep the noise down - didn't happen)

I quit going to movie theaters for similar reasons.
It seems like rude and obnoxious has become fashionable.

...or maybe I'm the grumpy old guy I said I'd never be...  Grin

I hope there weren't any bears around. That might have turned into a bloodbath of a practical joke. Not that they didn't deserve bears  Cheesy

The cabins were only about a foot of the ground (no bears they hung around the garbage dump a few miles away) the raccoons hung around the camp grounds , and were so tame they would  take marshmallows from your hand ,or open your ice chests is you weren't smart enough to bring them inside or lock them in the trunk of your car. but if grouped didn't like to share ,thus the fighting, and the party people weren't brave enough to go out and look,  armed only with a flashlight.(city slickers). Even if run off thy would have returned until the food was gone. Grin they weren't in any real danger ,just a real sleepless night.
