Custom Luggage Rack Build
08/09/22 at 11:52:46
Hi I just recently got a 2019 s40. However I was disappointed at the lack of luggage rack options so I resorted to making my own. This was a tricky design challenge as the savage does not have direct mounting areas that suit a rack.
Let me know If you have any questions about the build!

That looks really well done and a great size for the bike. My biggest concern is how obscured the brake light will be once anything is on the rack (any rack really, not just your very slick design). I've always felt the rear turn signals should be converted to running/brake/signal lights. But I'm no electrical genius.

Your absolutely right. The brake light on its own is still visible even with a top box on the rear. However even with the tail light still being visible I am installing an additional tail light for my top box.

If you remove the license plate light you'll find that this is the perfect location for a cateye tail light.

Very nice job, I did something similar this winter, although I took a different design approach. I also have my rack half way over the passenger portion of the seat, as I only ride this bike by myself, and I like to slide further back in the seat. Also, this way it doesn't block the view of the brake light. Check out my thread with the build at the link right here.

And this is the final result, the SavaGlide.

For the additional tail light, I highly recommend Denali B6, it mounts underneath the license plate, very bright. I have it on my bike, and they also make a dual version that mounts on both sides of the license plate.
