3 questions about rejetting

Just wanted to start by saying "Thanks !" to all those that post and help out here on the forum. With your help I found the right muffler mod and was able to get it installed yesterday. Looks and sounds just like I imagined it would. Really love the more streamline look the Dyna muffler gave her along with the sound more like a true cruiser instead of the "ATV" sound it had stock. It did create as was expected more backfire and "pop" off throttle as was expected and from day one I have had the mid range "pulse" due to the lean factory settings on the carb. So now for my three questions to anyone that can help :
1) To do the rejetting / spacer mod ...is there a post for step by step what to expect anywhere on the tech section, or can anyone clue me into how much time I can expect this job to take. I am not a mechanic but fairly experienced with bikes having grown up rebuilding and modding my dirt bikes and then owning an '85 Suuzuki Madura 1200 V4 ( what a pain in the you know what balancing the four carbs...) that I worked on and did several mods myself.
2) What jet settings of the ones in Lancers kit would you recommend having installed the Dyna. There isnt a "horrible" amount of backfiring it is just more prevelent now. I could almost live with it, if it where not for the mid range effect the spacer is creating ... even when stock it was bad enuf to annoy me severely.
3) Last but not least and probably a stupid question, but I thought I saw a photo illustration that showed the carb still mounted and illustration showing access to everthing. Does this mean the job/mod can be done without totally removing the carb ?
Thanks again for all you guys help... You'll be hearing from me alot probably as I have had the bike a month now ( New '07 model ) and I swear with the lightweight agility and potential for just the right amount of power this is the "perfect" bike ...for me anyway !
Later...and many thanks again !
Tom

Now remember, things look bad and it looks like you're not gonna make it, then you gotta get mean. I mean plumb, mad-dog mean. 'Cause if you lose your head and you give up then you neither live nor wi

Tom, I am in the process of doing just what you have done and what you will be trying to do with the rejet. I imagine the job can be done with the carb in place...with a lot of good fortune smiling down on you but I did not have that good luck. I took the carb out and the first thing you will encounter is the difficulty with removing the screws. Even with the carb in your hands and all the room you may need it is still difficult and I wound up using a vise grip to remove the 4 screws on the top of the dome. I am still unable to remove the 2 screws that hold the spacer in place and I will probably need to drill them out! The 4 screws on the bowl came out o'k but I have read where some people have had the same problem I did with the ones on the top. The jets were no problem...came right out without difficulty. If you do a search or just look at the postings within the past week with the heading "soft screws", "spacer mod" and "rejet" you will find a lot of info as well as doing a search with those words in this part of the forum going back as far as you can go. You will also find some good pics that will help. Good luck
